Group Text: What's Your Nighttime Routine?

The Holiday season has officially begun which also means that the longer, darker days of the winter season have us leaving work in a depleted daze, with the energy to do absolutely nothing laborious when we return home (besides maybe sprawl flat on the couch and reach for the remote). Anyone else feeling this?!

We recently started asking some of our favorite power women about the nighttime rituals they use to unwind from the day's stresses to prepare for a rejuvenating REM, and it got us thinking about our own nighttime rituals + routines (or shall we say lack there of....).

Cue the Palo Santo.

But seriously, it made us realize that making it a priority to arrive home to a quiet and sacred space and that the 'coming down' time from work-life to home-life was and should be a requirement for all.

Instead of turning on the tv when we put our computer bags down, we've replaced it with putting on some mood mellowing music, lighting some candles and yes, the palo santo, maybe running a bubble bath, doing something indulgent for the first hour you arrive home to just, chill out.

What’s your favorite way to wind down at night? What steps do you just have take to get in the groove?

Here’s to leaving the outside world, well, outside. At least for tonight.

Bra off, robe on. Spearmint tea. I do light yoga and stretching. Legs up the wall, long forward folds– this is particularly essential to my wellbeing. My legs get so tense in the city. I shower at night. If I’ve washed my hair that night I’m more inclined to moisturize my whole body. I use organic sweet almond oil because I feel like it absorbs faster than coconut oil and it doesn’t have a strong scent. Now that it’s holiday time I like to diffuse CEDARWOOD in my bedroom. Call Mom. Light reading like poetry, journaling or Netflix on my iPad if I feel like it!

tea (mint or ginger), showering with Dr. Bronner’s Lavender soap, reading until my eyes start to shut :)

Wash my face (I actually look forward to this every night because the Pratima products I use smell SO GOOD) + read (Grain Brain currently on my bedside table) + put on lavender scented eye mask!

soon as i walk in the door, it’s bags and coat thrown down, a DEEP breath my kitchen’s clary sage scented air (thanks to a super strong candle the roomie and i light each day), guzzle a huge glass of water, and make dinner / tea. then eat all cozy in my white linen bed – himalayan salt lamp on, sage or palo santo burning by the window, youtube (a stranger obsession, i realize), rEaDiNG!!, dry brush + a super hot shower, coco oil UP, a little lavender on the feet, then it’s time to dream. i. love. bed. time.

Tea with some Moringa and Ashitaba, Lavender oil on hands and feet, writing down the things I was grateful for that day, Standard Wax candles lit, snuggles with my dog and our foster pups, netflix with my fiance. I’m getting relaxed just thinking about it!

X-Files reruns, bedtime tea, face mask, candles and some light reading (currently into Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur).

Love this! Keri Glassman taught us the 3 things for the next day before bed – it’s been life-changing.

Crushing on your nighttime routine! Sounds like the perfect way to wind down.

A big, chunky sweater, a glass of wine, a piece of probiotic chocolate and lots of kisses.

Coat and shoes off, change into house dress and slippers. Raw chocolate and hot tea, sit with a quiet project… Either sewing, reading a beautiful book, or another slow, creative activity to bridge the mind from full action to stillness.

  • FREYA says:

Lavender oil on my pillow, a bottle of Sakara night water, and a good book. No phones or laptops in bed!

  • Gabby says:

Tea + TV + Snuggles + Nighttime Affirmations

First and foremost, soft pants WITH THE QUICKNESS. A shower and occasionally a face mask, popcorn for dinner (sorry), snuggling/TV show catch-up with my dude and our pup, a cup of tea and 5-10 minutes of a nature documentary until my melatonin kicks in and I fall asleep.

  • Denise says:

Glass of wine, a coloring book, and girl talk with my roommate!

Also I always write down my top 3 priorities for the next day before I go to bed – which can be tactical (e.g., tasks to accomplish at work) or reflective (e..g, something I want to work on in my relationships).
