Warning: Mercury Retrograde is Upon Us

In our beloved Milky Way, Mercury is the one ruling communication, travel, and technology. And when he’s gone all retrograde on us, our conversations with loved ones get misunderstood, travel delays are as expected as the sun set every night, and the iPhone that makes our daily lives more seamless than those of our great grandparent’s will try to play the game of breakdown. But try not to play along with it, dear Sakaralite.

Mercury may be the smallest planet in our solar system (discounting Pluto now), but that doesn’t mean his tricks and gimmicks are anything less than influential on Earth dwellers. As Mercury rounds the bend, he appears to stop and spin backwards. Emphasis on appears. He doesn’t actually go backwards; it’s all an optical illusion. This happens three to four times a year, and is often referred to as the great Communication Crisis. Welcome to Mercury Retrograde, starting today and lasting until January 25 2016. 

DO take this three week opportunity to become more conscious of your communication, travel, and technological habits. Is what you’ve been doing in these areas making your life easier, or harder than it needs to be? Discounting how you go about these things isn’t going to do you any good, but rather, tap into the influence of Mercury Retrograde’s theme of Re: Renew, review, revise, repeat, rethink, re-read, re-do, re-evaluate, re-examine, renovate, revamp, reunion… you get the picture.

DO take this time to call up an old friend or a distanced family member. Though yes, communication at this time gets quite crossed, it’s also a wonderful time to remember the special connection you have to a human who’s been an integral part of your growing up (especially if you’re not use to talking to them so often anymore). And do know… you’re not alone in this; they’ll be thinking of you too.

DON’T start anything new. The great Communication Crises is no time to first sit down and write that novel, buy a new computer or car, sign a new contract (at least not before you read, and re-read, the fine print carefully!). Don’t be surprised when equipment crashes and wifi doesn’t work. Be sure to organize and back everything up ahead of time.

DON’T take things personally when someone you thought was trustworthy seems to be doing you wrong. Assume that they’re still taking your well-being to heart and doing the best they can during this time, just as you are. Don’t be quick to judgements or anger, and remember to take a deep breath before going off on impulse.

You can do this! Don’t play the game. Three weeks from now, all will be gold again. Remember, we’re all in this together.
