Let's Talk About These Holy Temples of Ours
Welcome to Body Talk — a platform for women to share the conversations they have with and about their bodies.
I am too fat, I am too thin, I feel ugly and most definitely not worthy enough. I should be more like her, so that he will want to be with someone more like me. I will never be what I dream of being. I am not beautiful in this body, and I will never be perfect as I am.
Sad statements to read, right? They hurt. They ignite pain in all of us. They send toxic shutters through our cells. And yet, they are all far too common to even fathom. Ask any woman, and no doubt, these are some of the things that fuel her consciousness every single day. We occupy insane amounts of precious headspace with self-deprecating thoughts, negative perception patterns, and obsessions.
Working in an office full of women, chatting with clients all day about their health and eating patterns, and exploring topics of health + wellness here on the Mag, we know how deeply rooted these thought patterns live in so many of us, and how profound an effect they have on our everyday lives. We are over the moon to finally, and fearlessly, open this portal of communication about self-love, self-deprecation, and self-exploration, touching upon anything and everything in between. If there is one thing we know full well, it is the power of words, and thus, the power of thoughts that we all have. Your thoughts are creating your reality. Your words have the power to change your life, and the lives of many others. So let's look at our thoughts. Let's lay them all out on the table — with exhaustive vulnerability, open hearts, raw hope, and complete healing -- with the hopes to gain a more profound understanding of the perceptions of ourselves, our sense of power, and our understanding of our body as a temple.
The aim here is not image-making, or perfection-seeking. Rather, it is image-wrecking, perfection-shattering, and infinite-purpose discovering in order to peel back the layers of the images we have each built of ourselves and who we are supposed to be. The aim is that we may unearth the absolute Love and Beauty that we have always been, and always will be. The aim here is to provide a platform to explore, discover, and share. To be honest, strong, and compassionate and to hopefully strengthen our connection to this physical vehicle we spend so much time thinking about.
We each have unique bodies, and unique stories to tell. Here, we will be telling ours, in faith that you will be encouraged to tell yours. What are you telling yourself when you look in the mirror? When have you felt best in your body? When have you felt the worst? What makes you YOU, and why are you thankful for that? Tell us what helps you stand tall, and we'll stand there right beside you.
Uncover your misery, discover your mission, radiate love — you are not alone. Welcome home.
