Hydration is fundamental for supporting whole-body health—from flushing toxins out of your system, to regulating body temperature, to providing your cells with the water they need to function. Drinking water is essential to get enough H₂O to feel your best, but your diet can give you a great boost, too.
Keep this list handy for your next trip to the store and load up on produce, snacks, and pantry items to stay healthily and happily hydrated.
THE PRODUCE AISLE
- Watermelon: It’s right in the name: watermelon is composed of approximately 92% water, plus it’s flush with replenishing electrolytes.
- Strawberries: Rich in water, fiber, and antioxidants, strawberries are a hydration powerhouse.
- Cucumber: Cucumbers are made of almost entirely water. Plus, they’re low in calories, making them a smart snack.
- Lettuce: Eating just a cup of lettuce provides your body with ¼ cup of water. That’s good hydration math.
- Grapefruit: About 90% of a grapefruit’s weight is water—and they’re rich in both nutrients and antioxidants.
- Celery: Another pick with very high water content, as well as electrolytes like potassium. Juice it for even more hydration benefits.
THE REFRIGERATED AISLE
- Coconut Water: This refreshing bev is packed with electrolytes like potassium, sodium, and magnesium.
- Cashew Yogurt: With its high water content and strong electrolyte profile, this is a great snack to up your hydration.
- Plant Milks: Plant milks are made up of mostly water and are often fortified with important nutrients—great for mixing into smoothies.
THE PANTRY AISLE
- Broth: Pick your broth of choice—it’ll have high water content and can help your body absorb nutrients better.
- Honey: Honey has humectant properties, which means it attracts and retains moisture. Try incorporating it into an at-home face mask to help hydrate your skin.
