How To Get Out Of Your Head & Into Your Body

The grueling process of getting out of the head and into the body is the foundation of any spiritual or emotional practice ever. The brain is a vital tool, and it’s equally as vital to practice nourishment of that tool. Aside from a daily dose of healthy fats and greens to boost brain power, this also means taking time to disregard it, turn it off and let it be. Just as it is with the other tips and tops of our weary bodies, we must rest our weary minds. And just as it is with anything firing away, if the mind fires forever without rest, it’s going to burn out and destroy itself. We must let it sleep.

The good news is, this doesn’t have to mean hours of meditation, slumber, or seclusion from society. Our planet is a beautiful place to live in, and now that there’s a possibility of life on Mars, let’s also call it how it is, and just say that we got the better end of the habitation stick. The changing of the seasons, the promise of new beginnings accompanied by a much needed end. Lush, nourishing greens and sparkly flowing streams. Mother Earth has a lot for us to experience, and we, physically, cannot do that if we are always so stuck in our own minds. Ask any creative, and they will tell you that the times that they made their best works were when they got completely out of their own minds (naturally) while some higher power took over - something that has nothing to do with the mind, but is a whole body experience of creativity and sheer genius.

Getting out of the head, and into the body is all based on a feeling, a flow. Being in this flow gets us out of that logical, masculine, regimented way of forming reality. Who needs reality when you can have magic? Getting into the body gets us in touch with all the magic that’s happening inside of us, and in turn, creates magic all around us. This isn’t to say that a logical way of thinking isn’t necessary sometimes, because the yin x yang, the masculine x feminine, the sheer balance of our universe is a law for good reason. But it is to say that we must balance out our incessantly logical thinking habits with some more enchanted ways of operating.

It’s about getting in touch with every neuron, nerve, organ, breath of oxygen, and sensation of touch on the body. This flow is place of openness, vulnerability and creation. This is where things really happen. This is destiny.

Meditation, exercise, eating well, creative projects, and engagement in deep conversation are just some of the many ways that we can get out of our minds, and into our precious bodies. You can also take a time out to sit down alone and drink your favorite tea, read your favorite book, whip up your favorite bites, call your favorite human, visit your favorite shop... all the while staying focused on the inner body, and not being trapped by the mind. As the ever-wise Eckhart Tolle puts it, "The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but thought about it. Be aware of the thoughts you are thinking. Separate them from the situation, which is always neutral. It is as it is.”

Feel the seasons change, breathe in fresh air, breathe out expectation.
