But if you know where and how to look (without getting sucked down the rabbit hole of passionate, novella-length reviews of household appliances...been there), you can stock up on a number of wellness essentials. In China, the gynostemma plant, a.k.a. jiaogulan, is considered “magical grass,” and if that doesn’t make you want it in your teacup, we don’t know what will. While you may have heard the recent news about coffee helping you live longer, people have been brewing up gynostemma, an adaptogenic herb, for years to encourage longevity, as well as to lower blood pressure and cholesterol, fight free radicals and boost immunity.
No longer content to languish in your barbeque grill, charcoal is having a moment. Specifically, we’re talking about the activated variety, which is charcoal that’s been steam-heated to fire up its absorptive powers. It contains anti-inflammatory curcumin to ease joint conditions such as arthritis in addition to strengthening your immune system and supporting brain health. Buy a big bag and add it to soups, smoothies, juices, dressings and more. Pro tip: mix it with some black pepper to enhance its bioavailability.
Seriously. Hear us out. While most of the products on this list are things to put into your body in pursuit of wellness, we can’t forget the health of your mind + soul. The effect of coloring the intricate patterns in this workbook is surprisingly calming and therapeutic. As the book itself instructs, there are no rules. Just color until you feel like stopping. Then you’re done. At the very least, it forces you to take a break from whatever you’re doing (particularly if that thing is stressing you out) and refocus your mind for a little while.
