Steaming the face opens your pore vessels to release dirt, acne-causing bacteria, trapped oil, and the daily onslaught of germs, debris, pathogens, and toxins. It also serves as a powerful antidote to environmental stressors that tag along with living in a big city.
Our favorite at-home version of the spa staple is an easy DIY with 4-5 cups of boiling water and a few bags of our favorite tea (we're partial to Sakara Detox Tea) for a soothing aromatherapy session. Beyond opening pores, facial steam increases circulation leaving skin flushed and glowing, promotes elastin and collagen production, and helps skin absorb skincare products better.
Using the 5-10 minutes while you steam, breathe deeply, and allow yourself to go into a meditative state. You'll feel invigorated, calm, cleansed, and extra glowy.
Aromatic Facial Steam
Ingredients:
Directions:
1. Bring 4-5 cups of water to a boil. As the water boils, clean your face using a gentle cleanser to ensure you remove any makeup or dirt.
2. Once your water has boiled, pour into a circular glass bowl, and place tea bags (plus essential oils if using) in water allowing to steep. Next, grab your towel, drape over your head, and place your face above the steaming bowl. Your face should be close enough to feel the steam penetrating, but not so close that you feel like your skin feels as though it's burning. Your steam can last for 5-10 minutes, but shouldn't be longer than that.
3. Once you are done with your steam, use a favorite sheet or clay mask, tone to help pores close back up, and then use your favorite hydrating moisturizer.
