Homemade All Natural Suntan Lotion
¼ cup coconut oil
¼ cup shea butter
2 tbsp beeswax granules
1-2 tbsp zinc oxide powder
1 tsp red raspberry seed oil
20-30 drops carrot seed oil
Melt the coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax granules in a double boiler or a small pan on very low heat. Gently stir ingredients together until the mixture has fully melted, and remove from heat. If you are using zinc oxide powder (for higher SPF protection) this would be the time to mix it in. Following the zinc, add in the raspberry seed oil, carrot seed oil, and essential oil(s) of your choice – but be sure to exclude any photosensitive oils (usually citrus essential oils), as those can actually cause your skin to burn faster than without any sunscreen. For this recipe we used mango essential oil (it smelled AMAZING!). Once you have blended all the ingredients together, refrigerate the mixture for 10-15 minutes. Remove from the refrigerator and hand whip the mix to a buttery consistency.
Warning! The sunscreen we created does not have a specific SPF, so please use with caution. The damaging effects of the sun are very serious and we want you to, first and for most, protect yourself. We suggest testing out this recipe before using for a full day in the sun. There is no guarantee that this recipe will protect your individual skin from the sun. You know your skin best.
