The Unbelievably Easy Basics to a Healthy Heart
Having a healthy heart is the key to life, literally! Whether you want to prevent cardiovascular issues in the future or you want to reverse any heart condition you may already have, here are some tips to help you achieve a healthy heart and a healthy life.
Nuts- Almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans, you name it! Always aim for RAW! No more than a handful a day, nuts are filled with monounsaturated fats, which allow the movement of plaque from your arteries preventing heart attacks. Go to Whole Foods (or your natural supermarket) and make your own trail mix, I like to throw in some goji berries and cranberries for added enjoyment :)
Seeds- Just as good as nuts, if not better, seeds like chia, hemp, and flax are nutritional powerhouses. Soak ¼ cup of chia seeds in cashew milk for about 15 minutes, top with shredded coconut and bam! you’ve got yourself a rich, heart healthy chia seed pudding!
Beans- Chickpeas, mung beans, lentils, all so versatile and so good for you! You can do anything from lentil soup to hummus. Beans are a source of plant-based protein, iron, folate, B vitamins and more, which help lower cholesterol and aid in weight loss.
Olive Oil- Drizzle this heart-healthy mixture on almost any dish to reap the benefits – especially on salad dressings! Make sure it’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil to help you assimilate all the nutrients you are consuming. One rule though, don’t cook with it! Olive oil has a low smoking point and burns quick, which will kill the nutrients. Instead cook with a coconut oil or high oleic sunflower oil.
What’s your favorite heart healthy choice?
