Hydrate like a goddess warrior with h2(CHIA)o

Chia seeds are little seeds that pack a powerful punch of nutrients for their tiny size. They come in white, brown and black, and close up they resemble pretty little speckled eggs. These itty bitty seeds boast an impressive nutritional profile with 4.5g healthy fats, 5g fiber, and 3g protein in just one tablespoon. Additionally they contain calcium, manganese, phosphorus and antioxidants. Aztec warriors used chia to stay hydrated during battle, because the little guys absorb liquid to 10 times their size – this also means that if you don’t drink enough water, chia seeds can actually be dehydrating, so the best way to soak up their benefits is to drink them in h2o. With the right ratio of seeds to water (about 3 tablespoons seeds to one cup water), chia will maintain the consistency of jelly, and can actually be used as an egg substitute in vegan recipes! Here’s how to get your hydration on the warrior way:

1)    Mix 1 to 2 tablespoons chia seeds with 12 oz water.

2)    Add fruit, herbs, flowers, or whatever your heart desires to spice up the flavor!
