6 Big Reasons to Fall Madly in Love with Lemons

Ladies, do I have news for you! As of right now, lemons need to be your long-term favorite superfood. When I discovered the endless health benefits of consuming fresh squeezed lemon juice on a daily basis as part of a natural wellness regime, I knew I had to spread the word. If you want to detox effortlessly, slim down naturally, boost your energy, improve your digestion, support your immune system, and enjoy glowing skin by consuming just one food, read on…

Drinking a cup of water plus the juice of half a lemon first thing in the morning is a great way to gently flush your system of toxins that have been released out of your cells, tissues and organs overnight. We wake up dehydrated, so immediate water consumption is a must, and adding an alkalizing squeeze of lemon gives your body the extra boost it needs to do a thorough clean out.

The taste of freshly squeezed lemon juice in a glass of water can help to curb vicious cravings for sweets or other tempting treats that can contribute to weight gain. It also has the ability to suppress your appetite and make you eat less overall, due to the presence of the fruit fiber Pectin, which keeps you feeling satisfied for longer.

Lemons have energizing and revitalizing properties, so ditch the morning coffee. Coffee, when consumed in excess or over a long period of time, can wreck havoc on your adrenals. Instead, enjoy the uplifting and gentle purity of lemon water, keeping your body and mind fresh and clear.

Lemons have the wonderful ability to trigger your liver to make more bile, which is essential for helping your gastrointestinal tract to break down fats. This allows for enhanced nutrient absorption, especially fat soluble vitamins, while keeping your intestines clean and healthy. Concentrated lemon water can also help to ease indigestion or an upset tummy. One of my favorite ways to include lemons into my daily diet is to squeeze the juice on big salads. The Vitamin C that lemons contain boosts your uptake of iron from your favorite dark leafy greens, legumes and proteins.

Say goodbye to that sugar laden orange juice that can drastically spike blood sugar, especially on an empty stomach. Say hello to lemon water instead! Lemons are packed with Vitamin C, an antioxidant that has a powerful effect on the immune system, keeping it strong and ready to combat foreign invaders and other nasty infections (super great to have on hand while traveling, as well!).

Natural beauty tip: lemons help your body to produce collagen! Yep, smooth out fine lines around your eyes and on your face with this natural wonder. Lemons also happen to be rich in antioxidants, reducing inflammation and fighting free radicals, which can cause damage to delicate skin cells causing pre-mature aging. So drink up, drink up!
