Many gourmet health stores and cafés offer a variation on a "zoom ball." It's a rolled-up bite of herbs and adaptogens for a convenient hit of plant medicine. Relishing the time in her home kitchen, our in-house herbal maven, Sasha Pagni, decided to whip up three variations on the theme. The one in bright green is dipped in energizing matcha and bee pollen. The yellow gems are a source of quercetin, one of the planet's most potent antioxidants. The deep burgundy ball is dotted in cacao nib gems, a mineral-rich option to satisfy a sweet craving.

All three bites feature Protein + Greens Super Powder, an essential nutrition powder that offers a satiating quad of whole-food—and grain-free—plant protein sources alongside a generous dose of alkalizing greens and algae. This recipe also manages to squeeze in hormone-loving seeds and mineral-rich dates. Pagni says the recipe is flexible and delicious no matter what you have on hand. "You can make so many different variations by altering the ingredients slightly," Pagni says. "I like adding energizing adaptogens like cordyceps or dunking them in melted, raw chocolate for a nutrient-dense, chocolatey treat."

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup almond butter
  • 7 large dates, chopped finely
  • 1/3 cup coconut flakes
  • 1/4 cup hemp seeds
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds, soaked  (sub sunflower, sesame, or flax)
  • 1 heaping scoop Sakara Protein + Greens
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon maca or cordyceps

Variations:

Cacao Protein Power Bites:

Follow the original recipe and add the following:

  • 2 teaspoons cacao powder
  • 1/2 tablespoons cacao nibs

Matcha Protein Power Bites:

Follow the original recipe and add the following:

  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder
  • 2 teaspoons bee pollen

 

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a big bowl and stir until combined. You can use a blender to combine if you prefer a more uniform mixture.
  2. Using 1 or 2 tablespoons of the mixture, roll into bite-sized balls.
  3. Sprinkle with extra cinnamon, cacao, or matcha. Enjoy.
